During WW1, the Balkans and Macedonia were the battlefield of several great battles between the Central Powers and the Allied. Cer, Kolubara, Hill 1050, hill 1248 around the town of Monastir (current Bitola), peak Kajmakcalan, Dobro Pole, Dojran are only a few names among those related to the heroic fighting which saw thousand servicemen losing their life for their Countries, for their ideals. Young men who, came out from their trenches, ran with their rifle toward the enemy lines heedless of dangers, defying death. And question is why this? Answer is because they were soldiers, because that was their duty. 100 years have passed and their exploits are now wonderful pages of the history of Europe, a large country where people live in pace also thanks to the sacrifice of these men.
Thanks, respect and remember these brave men is now our task! Prof. PhD Fabio Cotifava
